skin confessions beauty counterYou might want to get a cup of tea and have a seat.  Skin care is my

vulnerable place. If you know the pain of acne, you understand this

particular form of crazy.   A breakout is the fastest way to get me mopey,

defeated and send me running to a solo sanctuary where no one can see

my face. I’m not sure when this “isolate and mope” pattern started, but I

can remember the agony of breaking out throughout high school and

college too.

In my 20’s after playing with my diet and eliminating pretty much

everything but cucumbers, mint and pineapple, and in a fit of desperation

right before my wedding, I started a course of Accutane. This was a radical

turning point.

Now, in my 40’s, I still turn to diet and wellness to stay strong and clear.

This is, and has become my life’s work as a health coach. I still use what I

need to use from the realm of traditional medicine, and am VERY grateful

to my Superstar dermatologist for supporting me so well through the years

with her care and knowledge.  At 43, it’s still crazy to have blackheads, age

spots, the occasional pimple and wrinkles all on the same 1” square of

skin.

A few months ago, I was introduced to a company called Beautycounter. I

was skeptical, as I have tried every “miracle” product for internal and

external use. Literally.  I was not interested in spending a bunch of money

to decide that yet one more product that works for everyone else won’t

work for me… and will perhaps bleach all my favorite towels, shirts, and

sheets.  The woman who was sharing with me kindly brought me her bag

and offered that I take it home for a few days and try it… Well, right from

the start, this was different.   I took her bag and raced home to shower.

I was immediately taken aback to learn that the cleanser was a cream

cleanser with an oil base… uh, if you have battled oily skin and live in a

humid climate, the LAST thing you want to do is oil up!

I’ve been trying for decades to get oil off my face. But.. I tried it anyways.

I’ve always used strong products that sting and burn. I’ve always equated

the words “sting” and “burn” with “effective”.

This creamy cleanser glided on and felt like silk on my skin. No burning, no

pain. I washed it off, and because old habits die hard, felt I needed to

follow up with my acne pad. I was shocked!  There was no brown residue

from my makeup left on my face. That little pad was white.  Hmmm…

I tried the face oil, and this was the biggest surprise.. my skin soaked it up.

Drank it in. Feasted. Who would have thought!??!

The net result? By the time I returned the bag to my friend a few days later,

my skin was happy, radiant and even a bit more clear/translucent looking. I

would not have thought it possible had I not experienced it myself.   The

biggest surprise? Oils!!?!  May be a girl’s best friend.  Check out the blog

post on oils for your skin…

I want you to experience happy, glowing, calm skin for the first time in a

long time.
