3 keys to be more intuitive in your eating

by | Dec 10, 2019

You might be wondering what it means to be an intuitive eater…

To me, Intuitive eating is being able to follow your own body’s guidance to what works for you! This can take some time to get clear. For example, if you crave sugar 24/7, and intuitively feel like you need to eat Skittles all day, that may be coming from somewhere other than intuition.

However, we can use the information that you are getting to begin to get curious about what Your beautiful body needs, and it can offer a great place to start.

I hope that you enjoy this journey through the pieces that need to be in place so that you get clear intuition around your eating.

When you can become intuitive with your eating, you get to have an experience of peace, balance and self control around food.

Here are the three things you MUST do to be more intuitive with your eating:

1. Have structure

This is counter-intuitive! You need structure to have flow. Too much flow will leave you ungrounded and the information you receive will be ungrounded and scattered as well. Structure might look like a daily log or journal, or it might look like a present moment practice like yoga, dance, barre or meditation. It might be a combination of all of the above or your own version of what works for you. When you are in your body, connected and grounded with your cells and open to the vast quantity of information out there, you will get good information.

2. Be open to the flow

Once you are at home in your body, you need to find a way to open to the information. For me, I like to ask in my quiet moments: “Beautiful body, is there anything you need today?” or “What would you like for lunch?” or “What would serve us best right now?” Flow might come through writing. Flow might come through walking or in your meditation. I find savasana in yoga to be a wonderful time to receive guidance. I also get great guidance when I shower or bathe. Tune in to when you are open and in the flow.

3. Be willing to follow what you get

This is amazing to me- how often I will get something clearly and then not do it! I am so much better with this now, but man, when I first started, I was terrible at this! I remember getting really clear guidance in yoga- like “girl, you need a green smoothie (spinach and kale), hemp protein, 3 strawberries with coconut water and just a bit of ice in the next 3 hours” and I would get up off my mat and forget… often times until the next time I was on my mat. 🙂

Funny, because when I did follow through, it is like the best thing to eat… ever. And you can see that the combo is not a typical kind of thing that would incite rave reviews, but delivered medicinally, it was beyond delicious. I then got to take a look at why I resist things that bring me joy and pleasure and why it would be hard for me to remember to do something that was my own wisdom following through. I’m better at this now, and you might be really good at it from the start, but if you aren’t it’s ok- it’s a practice, and keep at it.

Cecily
