A few weeks ago, I walked you through a growth cycle experience that I recently had.

I heard back from so many of you! Thank you for your responses… I’m glad it resonated with you. It means a lot to hear back, that you are reading and that you are enjoying. <3

Your responses have ignited a desire to share another feeling that comes up each time a growth opportunity comes.

Incompetence.

That’s a fun word, isn’t it?!

Who wants to feel Incompetent??? (Did you notice no hands flew up with that question?)

Here’s the rub… With ANY new endeavor, any new learning, any new opportunity (which are all completely necessary to grow), you will 100% go through a phase of feeling awkward, unsure, “in over your head” and at times, Incompetent.

Consider it a great sign. It’s a sign that you are outside of your comfort zone, and as you have likely realized by now:

All growth happens OUTSIDE of your comfort zone.

Yep. There it is.

Another sticky reality with growing.

I hear it from clients all the time; “I want to be this” or “I’d like more of that in my life”… It’s rare to hear someone say, “I’d really like to feel like I have no clue, and doubt my abilities on a daily basis” Right?!?!

NO ONE says that.

AND in order to grow and get good at something new, there will 100% be a period where you experience feelings like this!

And what isn’t really explored is what that entails.

Do you realize that being more Patient will allow you to grow?

That your patience will be tested again and again?

How about being Fit and Strong? Yep, growing has to happen. You will likely get to explore feeling weak, insecure and not super coordinated as you explore new movements that WILL make you feel Fit and Strong.

More Honest, More Loving, More Resilient, More Successful? Yep, you are going to get a few opportunities that likely highlight where these potentials are not yet well developed, or places that you have opportunities to expand.

In my own life right now, I’m in a HUGE growth cycle. It’s complete with daily excitement, possibility, and a healthy dose of feeling the awkwardness of learning a LOT of new things, including in my “go to” comfort place- Movement and Exercise.

I’ve never felt more awkward in my life with the learning that I am doing! I care though, and I am finding my way through these feelings to become a lot more coordinated. It’s starting to feel like something I CAN do.

I’ve spent the last few weeks in a deep learning mode to become a Teacher in this new discovery of mine. In fact,

I’m opening a studio here in my hometown of Charlottesville that will offer this fun and exciting new movement!

I’d love to have you follow along with me on my journey. You can join me @theaktcharlottesville on Instagram and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/theaktcharlottesville

I’ll share more in the coming months — it’s new. It’s exciting, and it’s very much alive with opportunities to feel all of the feelings.

I’d love to hear- where are you stretching yourself? What’s “up” in your life that has you growing?

This can be a new job, a move, a new skill, parenting (omg, parenting was relentless with the growing opportunities!!), a new relationship… I’d love to know.

xx,
